St Peter’s Nursery is part of the parish of St Peter’s, Notting Hill and is located in St Peter’s Hall on Portobello Road.
In Victorian times, St Peter’s Church Hall provided a free school for local children; today it houses the thriving and happy St Peter’s Nursery. Born in 1991, our nursery has grown from five little children and one teacher, to a healthy and robust 35 children, loved and guided by seven highly qualified members of staff. St Peter’s is a cosy nursery; by keeping our number of admissions low, we can ensure that each practitioner has time to build trusting relationships with their key children, ensuring they really understand them and of what they are capable.
Central to our ethos is the Christian faith, its values and teachings, including a warm welcome and concern towards our neighbours in the community. Jean Ross Russell, Chaplain of the nursery and a supporter from the start, says, “the ethos of the of St Peter’s Nursery is a Christian based foundation, which welcomes children and their families of all faiths.” Our regular Praise and Worship sessions involve us thanking God for all we have and introduces children to Bible stories.
At St Peter’s, we open our doors to all, regardless of faith or finances. We offer a tiered structure of fees, to ensure our setting is available to as many families as possible. Although all children aged between 3 and 4 years old are entitled to at least 15 hours free early years education (and some cases, 30 hours) we do have to charge a small sum to cover our costs for services that go above and beyond the EYFS curriculum, such as daily access to Ladbroke Square Gardens, Teddy Tennis, Stretch-n-Grow and Sporkids sessions. We welcome children under the Government’s Two Year Old Funding Programme and apply for the Early Years Pupil Premium which is spent on eligible children.
St Peter’s Nursery is a family friendly nursery with children at the heart of all we do
Parents and their children are greeted into a caring and welcoming environment as soon as they arrive at St Peter’s. We build warm and caring relationships with the children and their families very quickly, thanks to our Open Door policy which encourages parents to communicate their concerns – and compliments! – immediately. We do our best to work with parents, building strong partnerships to support them and their children. All our staff are not only fully academically qualified to at least NVQ3, but we are also all qualified mummies – we understand you!
At St Peter’s Nursery, we celebrate children’s inbuilt curiosity, energy, enthusiasm and drive to learn new things. We harness children’s passion and motivation, building on their interests both inside and outside the Nursery – we encourage parents to share with us their children’s triumphs that have occurred at home, so that we gain a deeper insight into each child’s interests and abilities; building on this knowledge, we can plan for each individual child, expanding and enriching their knowledge and physical skills.
